Dr. David Eso has rich experience with business, technical, academic, and creative writing. Working in these different genres has developed his ear for natural idiom, accuracy, economy, and liveliness of expression. Past editing clients include Victoria Hospice, the Information and Privacy Commission of British Columbia, and the IT Department at Cenovus Energy. He serves as an editor at the Malahat Review, a prominent literary journal, and has edited several book-length editions. His own writing has been widely published, from peer-reviewed articles and book reviews to poetry and creative non-fiction.
David earned his B.A. from UBC in 2004, having completed the school’s prestigious Arts One and Honours English programs. The University of Calgary’s English Department awarded an M.A. in 2015 for his thesis Loving Strife. While at the U of C, he taught creative writing to undergraduate students. Doctoral studies brought David to the University of Victoria, where he taught written composition as well as literary criticism; earned an esteemed Bombardier scholarship; and was elected to the university’s Senate and Board of Governors. UVic awarded Dr. Eso his PhD in 2021, for a dissertation titled Serious Play.
