Qualifications

Rich experience with business, technical, academic, and creative writing has developed my ear for natural idiom, accuracy, economy, and lively expression. I serve as an editorial board member at the Malahat Review, a prominent literary journal, and have edited several book-length editions. My own words have been widely published: from peer-reviewed articles and book reviews to poetry and creative non-fiction.

I earned a BA from UBC in 2004, having completed the school’s prestigious Arts One and Honours English programs. The University of Calgary’s English Department awarded an MA in 2015 for my thesis Loving Strife. Doctoral studies brought me to the University of Victoria, where I taught written composition as well as literary criticism; earned an esteemed Bombardier scholarship; and was elected to the University’s Senate and Board of Governors. UVic awarded my PhD in 2021 for a dissertation titled Serious Play.
